EVENTS
Specifically created to inspire every aspiring programmer girl
WORK HARD. PLAY HARD.
Programming is hard and it requires a lot of work, there’s no doubt about this, but what’s even harder is to get over the false assumptions that being a programmer requires to be of a certain gender or that you need a special talent or, even worse, that you’re born with this talent. That’s why our events’ main focus is to destroy these myths by creating concepts specifically designed to encourage women and girls to not only join or switch to programming but to also stay in this field:
- We encourage programmer females to come forward and speak about their career path, about their hard work and great accomplishments, in order to build in the female collective consciousness a female programmer stereotype with whom every aspiring programmer girl can identify.
- We create and nurture collaborative mixed environments, like hackathons, where guys and gals team up, together with their diversities, to solve real-world problems.
- We make our events as fun as possible especially when we introduce programming to women or girls who desire to learn it in order to bring their ideas to life but are afraid that they’re “too late to the party”.

Where can you find us in Romania

Girls Who Code in Romania
Girls Who Code Romania first started in Bucharest in 2014. We immediately started to get requests to do our events in other cities. In 2017 was born Girls Who Code Iași, after 2 years of insistent requests from the current Managing Director, Irina Bejan, whom we love and applaud for the amazing things she and her team are doing in Iași.
We’re preparing to open in other major Romanian cities: Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara. If you resonate with our mission and want to bring Girls Who Code in your city, just drop us a line here.

ABOUT US
Who are we?
Our Mission: Bridging the Gender Gap in the Romanian IT Industry
Girls Who Code Romania was founded out of pure passion for programming on the 15th of February 2014 by Monica Muntean. Our mission is to bridge the gender gap in the Romanian IT Industry by growing the number of Romanian girls and women who will choose or switch to a programming related career.
We provide support to beginner and intermediate programmer girls and women in order to improve their coding skills through online and offline programs like workshops, online mentoring, conferences, presentations and meetups. At the same time, we create opportunities for advanced girls and women in order to develop and perfect their programming skills through hackathons, advanced workshops and involvement as mentors in our programs.
If you resonate with our mission and want to be a part of our movement, then join our team of volunteers. If you are an advanced programmer, gal or guy, and want to support girls and women in their process of learning and developing their programming skills then join our team of trainers.
