HAPPY CIOCEANU

LucruriGratis.ro

This application is the vision for the next 10 years (2018-2028) for lucrurigratis.ro NGO. The team rethought the design and experience using Material Design principles, Tinder-like interface and Augmented Reality features. It provides a platform to give free products to people that need. The selection is done by registering the interest to get a free product, followed by a comprehensive review of all the applicants by the ‘seller’. Moreover, the Augmented Reality feature provides in-browser experience to display the items in real world.

HUMANE KREW

Family Hope Autism

During the hackathon the team developed for the NGO both a completely manageable, WordPress based, presentation website and an interactive web & mobile application – an educative game for autistic children to assist parents and teachers in learning how to write and communicate, complete with a backend to dynamically add new words into the app.

Re:Rise

The solution the team worked on focused on how to save as many people before, during and after an earthquake. Finding out that the NGO plans on working with drones in the near future, the team created a project in which drones send images and details (GPS, movies, etc) to the application, where the data is analysed against the before earthquake data. During and after an earthquake, each person which uses the app gets it’s location saved and a pin on the map is added for it. Lastly, but not least, a new website was created for the NGO.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if I have already registered as an individual and meanwhile I found a team?2018-05-30T12:35:28+00:00

If you registered as an individual and meanwhile you found a team, make sure your team is visible on our Team Forming Platform. Don’t forget to join the Hackathon Discord server here so you can talk to the other teams and find new team members.

What are the expectations at the end of the hackathon?2018-05-30T12:41:51+00:00

At the end of the hackathon the expectations range from a prototype, a minimum viable product, to a ready to use solution by the NGO. You’re encouraged to keep collaborating with the NGO after the hackathon in order to develop and implement the solution even further, but this year one of the judging criteria will be the level of completion of the solution that you have developed during the hackathon.

How long will be the hackathon?2018-05-30T16:47:18+00:00

The HACKATHON will start on Friday, June 22nd, at 6:30 pm with the PRE-HACK session when the NGOs will pitch their causes and then your team will be matched with the cause for which you want to propose and develop a solution.

On Saturday, June 23rd, we’ll meet at the HACK DAY 1 starting with 8:30 AM and you’ll have the entire day and night. On Sunday, June 24th, the HACK DAY 2 starts at 8:30 AM and you’ll still have time to develop your solution until 1:30 PM. After lunch, at 14:30, all the teams will start pitching their solutions, each will have 5 minutes for pitching plus 2-3 minutes for the questions from the Jury. At 16:30 the Pitching Session will end and the Jury will retreat to vote the winning teams. Meanwhile we’ll enjoy a cocktail and at 17:00 the Winning teams will be announced. We’ll network until 18:00 when the event ends.

Are we going to stay during the night?2018-05-30T13:12:39+00:00

Yes. Because last year we had teams who wanted to stay during the Saturday night, this year we created a concept which encourages you to spend your Saturday night at the hackathon and continue developing the solution. You’ll be able to enjoy the beanbags, massage chairs, Yoga sessions and game zones in order to relax when you feel the need.

Can a team have only females/males?2018-05-30T13:22:13+00:00

No. We recommend having at least one female or male in your team in order to ensure that you’ve got the team diversity covered. If the solution you’re developing targets a mixed audience, the developing team should reflect the audience. If you are a team of only females/males and you have difficulties in finding at least one male/female team member, then don’t worry – there are plenty of participants who have applied individually.

Are we supposed to use a specific technology?2017-03-30T14:43:35+00:00

No. It’s up to you and your team to use the technology which best reflects your skills and best fits the solution that you’re developing.

Can I register even if I don’t have a lot of practical/professional experience?2017-03-30T14:38:56+00:00

Yes, you can, especially if you are a student at a CS/IT related faculty and you have some experience in one of the required skills – front-end development, back-end development, mobile development, game development, design, UX, marketing, growth hacking, product management. The HACKATHON is a good occasion to challenge and strengthen your skills, learn from the mentors and from those who are more experienced or have a more diversified experience.

How many members can a team have?2018-05-30T13:31:25+00:00

We recommend 5 team members, ideally 50% females and 50% males or at least one female/male. Please make sure to register your team on the hackathon’s Team Forming Platform especially if you need more team members with specific skills and promote it towards the participants on the hackathon’s Discord server

Can I come with my already formed team?2018-05-30T13:35:49+00:00

Yes. There is a special field for the teams in the registration form. Each team member has to register individually and has to mention the name of the team that s/he belongs to. Also don’t forget to register your team on the hackathon’s Team Forming Platform, especially if you’re looking for more team members. Join also the hackathon’s Discord server in order to communicate with the other participants, teams and organizers.

Can I register if I don’t have a team?2018-05-30T13:39:13+00:00

Yes. Registration is individual. You can find a team or create a new one on the hackathon’s Team Forming Platform. Join also the hackathon’s Discord server in order to communicate with the other participants, teams and organisers.
